WE RAN DOWN DESPERATE STREETS Though the air stung at her mouth and lungs like a relentless swarm of bees, Valoria kept running. She didn't dare stop running. She hadn't reached her goal yet. Most of the city was still asleep underneath their cozy beds, but Valoria was wide awake. She hadn't slept that night, but that was no news to her. She had laid awake for hours and hours before deciding that it would probably be best to go for a run right about now.
It was true, what they said about cities looking like ghost town in the early hours of the morning. It was sometime around four am. There were now motors rumbling past. No shop keepers ringing up totals on their cash registers. No screaming children being carried away by their mothers. With only the lampposts to light her way, Valoria would go a time without being able to see what might be lurking in the shadows, but she didn't care. She could out run the scary things. She could outrun everything: her memories, her fears, her dreams. Everything could just melt away with the steady rhythm of her feet pounding against the concrete of the sidewalk.
The going got a bit rougher and a bit foggier. Soon enough, Valoria's legs screamed stop and so she stopped. She bent over, panting. When she regained her breath and looked around, she saw that it was hard to see. She could hear the sound of waves washing up on shore and crashing against the posts of decks. She pulled out her cellphone and turned on its flashlight and walked forward. Sure enough, she'd run all the way to the port side of the city. She sighed and looked around herself. She wasn't exactly sure where she was, but she sure sure that if she turned back around and went slowly, she could find her way back home. She was now regretting not getting that stupid GPS thing on her phone. She always thought she'd never need it. "Wow... was I stupid..." she grumbled.

Kitten hadn't been able to sleep at all that night. Her dreams seemed to be getting worse and worse. She had woken up screaming which had caused her mother to run into her room rather quickly and find her in her kitten form. It had taken her mother and hour to get her to change back and calmed down enough to go back to sleep again. She had just woken up again and again, so she stopped trying and got up. Soon enough she was dressed and heading out of the apartment and leaving a note for her mother who was sleeping still before she had to go to work. She was sure that she'd hear about it later as she was not supposed to be wandering in the night time hours but that had never stopped her before. Sure she knew the area in which she lived was well dangerous but she always found a way to get out of a tight spot.
She headed down the street keeping alert and making sure that she could see where she was going despite the fog that was rolling it. At some point she made it to the Brooklyn Bridge. She stood there for a little bit before finding her way into Long Island Sound and to the docks there. She smiled happily as she found her favorite spot. However, a light a little bit away perked her curosity and she pushed fowards through the ever denser fog. It didn't take her too long to come up on another person. She looked at them for a moment and then back out at the waves. She was doing just right to blend in with the night and she was wondering if she was going to scare the person if she said anything. She shrugged the thought off. It would be nice to meet a new friend maybe. After all she hadn't seen Marco in a bit. She suddenly felt the need to hunt him down as well and make sure that he was okay.
She came up a little closer and tapped the other on the shoulder to the best of her ability. "You okay?" She questioned softly but loud enough for the other to hear. Then she waited for the other to say something watching for the reaction and being the ever observant person that she was. She was not feeling better and had forgotten that she had been having horrible nightmares of a place that felt real but she couldn't figure out where it was.

WE RAN DOWN DESPERATE STREETS Valoria could feel the humidity from the fog clinging to her skin. God, that wasn't a fun combination. Muggy was never fun after a hard run. She didn't notice the other person coming towards her in the least. She couldn't really see anything and she had her hearing aid turned down pretty low so that she wouldn't get scared by any loud noises. So, when something tapped her shoulder, she whipped around, scared out of her mind. She found a pretty small, blonde girl standing in front of her. She was shocked that someone who looked so young could possibly be out at this hour. She looked to be human enough so she offered her a bit of a shaky smile.
"P-Pardon?" she asked, still trying to get over her scare as she 'tucked her hair behind her ear'. She was really turning her volume back up so that she could hear what the other person had to say. Valoria really hated the thing, but she was deaf without it. She kept the flashlight on her phone turned on though so that she could have a bit of a chance of seeing any other person coming near. One scare tonight was one too many. She did her best to try and figure out what the girl had said based off of the shape her lips had taken, but she had never been good with lip reading and she couldn't say that it had gotten any better with time. So she decided to just take a wild guess. "I'm okay. You?" she asked as she hoped that she'd guessed correctly.

Kitten loved the fog she wasn't sure why but she'd always loved foggy nights. It should scare anyone her age or older she was sure but it never did her. It only made her more curious. It was harder to see when it was foggy that was no doubt but that never really mattered to the young girl. It meant adventure and danger was around ever corner even more so then during the day when it was all bright and annoying outside. Plus there were less people to invade her mind when night fell and it was foggy. She waited patiently for the other to answer her questions and she was taken out of her observering what was around them and the person when the person actually spoke to her. A question came out of the others mouth which made Kitten's head tilt just a little bit. Maybe the othe rhad not heard her that was always possible.
She watched as the other put her hair behind her ear but even this movement something felt odd in it. She shook it off though she would be good and try not to ask any seemingly rude questions and just take note of the observations she made. It was best that way after all not scarying someone again would be a nice thing. Having another friend would be nice too. Finally the other answered her words. "I'm alright. Just decided to come out on a nightly stroll because well I couldn't sleep." Kitten knew that it was odd for a girl of her age to be out alone at night but it was something that she liked and it never felt odd even when she got into danger she always had a way out of it. "I was not expecting to find anyone else out here at this hour. Do you need any help?" She might be okay but that didn't mean the other might not need help. After all you could be okay and still need help with something else. Least that was the way Kitten saw it. "Umm. Sorry If I scared you I didn't mean too."

WE RAN DOWN DESPERATE STREETS A small shiver ran down Valoria's back. Her body was busy trying to cool itself down but the air was already kind of cold around her with the weather, so she couldn't help but feel a little too cold for comfort. Her clothing was already pretty thin; she was wearing black athletic shorts and a tank top underneath a thin, purple jacket that had white lines going across it that reflected lights from cars' headlights so she could be spotted more easily. Her running shoes used to be white... a good number of runs ago. They were actually in pretty bad condition and she'd been planning on getting herself some new ones sometime soon.
She was distracted from her thoughts about her clothing when the small girl started to speak again. She couldn't help but smile a little bit at what she said. "Hey! What do you know? I couldn't sleep either!" she said with a soft laugh. "I normally go for a run when I can't sleep so I guess I can't really say much but... how on earth did you get out of your house at this hour? I know I would've been too terrified to even look out the window at this time of night when I was little." Valoria was trying to do her best to be friendly while still being concerned. Seriously though... what kind of parent let their kids roam the streets at this hour of night?!
The girl's next question seemed so... strange. Not to mention proper. She sounded like one of those princesses from those books set back in like... the Medieval times. She shifted her weight from foot to foot... wow, this girl. She hated to say it, but she felt super strange to Valoria. Like... not even human strange. "Oh uh... No, I'm perfectly fine. Just got a little lost cause of all of the fog." she said with a reassuring smile as she nervously rubbed the back of her neck. "I guess I just have a talent for getting lost!"
"Scared me? oh uh.. well... you did. Just a little. But that's okay. No harm done! I should've been paying more attention anyways!"
