Kitten tossed and turned in her bed. She hadn't been sleeping and the sun was slowly creeping through the crack in her blinds. She could hear her mother in the kitchen and the smell of bacon reached her nose. She tried to pull her blankets over her head but it didn't work. Finally she got out of bed and put her slippers on and walked out holding a medium sized cat stuffed animal. She walked into the kitchen and looked at her mother with innocent and sad eyes. Her mother turned from the pan of bacon she was making and walked up to her giving her a big hug and handing her a cup of hot chocolate. No words needed to be said. It was obvious when Kitten was not feeling well. Even the kitten inside of her seemed to be whimpering in a rather pathetic fashion.
Kitten took the cup and then jumped onto the stool and watched as her mother fixed waffles and bacon. She was eating moments later. Afterwards she went into her room placed her cat stuffed animal in its rightful place and took a shower. She felt a little better after the shower and after getting dressed she headed out with sunglasses on her face. She found her way to the Brooklyn Docks. She sat down at the end of one of the old peers and hummed softly to herself. She wasn't liking her dreams as of recently and she knew that she shouldn't be out alone with what Kai had told her but she couldn't help it.
Being outside made things a bit better for her. She curled up and looked down at the water. She was oblivous to anyone who might be coming up to her and what else was going on around her. She was focused on the movement of the water and the music playing in her head. She tossed a ball of yarn to the kitten inside of her who seemed to be content in just playing with the mental ball of yarn it had been given making cute little mews every so often. Those caused Kitten to smile.

Ryan and his adopted little sister Eve were really the only people in their family who were morning people. Their parents and other brother, Kaiden, preferred to sleep in late on Saturday mornings. Ryan himself liked to get up early, and get going -- he didn't like wasting the daylight hours. His little sister just had to go to bed early, and was therefore usually awake before their parents and Kaiden. Today, he had taken her to breakfast at the little diner down the road, and when they returned, their parents were up, drinking coffee and eating toast and watching television.
Soon after, he decided to go into Brooklyn to visit a few of his favorite little shops. He drove his car all the way down near the docks, then got some coffee from a small cafe. Afterwards, he decided to take a walk around the area; it was a serene day, a little bit chilly but not too much, and probably one of the last "nice" days of the year, considering that it was October. He enjoyed these days, when there was just a little bit of a cool breeze floating in from the ocean, but the sun was still shining.
As Ryan was walking along the docks, he noticed something that struck him as ... a little bit strange. A girl was laying down at the end of one of the docks. Her back was faced toward him, so he couldn't see her face, but he took note of her long, pale blonde hair, and thin frame. He glanced around, then walked closer, deciding to make sure she was okay. She was small, fifteen years old at the most from what he could tell, and shouldn't have been out here all alone ... especially sleeping, or even worse, passed out for some reason.
When Ryan reached her, he prodded her lightly on the shoulder, hoping not to startle her. He craned his neck slightly, trying to get a view of her face, but he wasn't able to.

Kitten had been humming to herself as she lay there. She had uncurled a bit and was laying so the her arm was half off the dock as if it was going to play in the water. The kitten inside of Kitten didn't fear water. Kitten loved water all the way around. It was just that ocean water was salty and Kitten didn't like much salt and waves had the tendency to try to kill her. Or at least they did in her mind. It was why she liked the docks the water was slightly calmer though salty. She could get over that if she really wanted too. She zoned out trying to figure out why there was a cat that always woke her up from her nightmares. The cat seemed to be like the little kitten that was inside of her. The kitten mewed at her a second later snapping her out of the thoughts that weren't making sense.
When she felt her shoulder being tapped she jumped and flipped falling inot the water feet first because she had cat like reflexes after all. She shook her head as she surfaced again and took a few seconds for her to get back up onto the dock which seemed a little odd to the perso who saw it. As she disappeared and reappeared there. She shook herself off. She took a deep breath and looked at the boy that had startled her. "Hello how may I help you?" She calmed herself down a few moments later. She looked at him slightly sternly. She really didn't like being snuck up on but she knew very well that it wasn't his fault. She had gone to not caring about what was around her. She really needed to be more careful.

Ryan jumped when the girl did -- though he jumped backwards and thus managed to avoid plunging into the water. He was certain he wouldn't have reacted that way, anyway, but who knew? Apparently he had startled her quite the great deal.
He inched a bit closer to the water and watched as she resurfaced, relieved that she could swim. Some people couldn't, and he didn't want to be responsible for anybody drowning. Ryan knew he probably would have jumped in after her if she hadn't come back to the surface when it seemed proper, but that didn't mean that he wanted to -- he liked the clothes he was wearing, and what he had done with his hair, and he wasn't the best swimmer, if he was going to be honest with himself.
"I, um ... I'm sorry, I just wanted to make sure you were alright," Ryan replied to her question in honesty. "It's not everyday you see a girl like yourself, um ... resting on the Brooklyn docks all alone." He smiled a little bit at her. "But I seem alright, so I assume you are?" He paused, finally having the grace to look her over fully. With her slim build, blonde hair, and intriguing eyes, she seemed familiar, somehow ... maybe too young for him to have associated with at school, and he couldn't think of any school function he might have met her at. So maybe it was something else... "I'm sorry, but do I know you?"
