- Magic ;; Adrienne is a talented young sorceress who strives to improve her skills as much as she can, whenever she can. Her main skills are thus:
Nature Magic ;; Calling upon the forces of nature. Most often, this means that Adrienne can control the weather to some extent – bringing forth thunderstorms or hail, or just summoning lightning, fire, or ice into her palms for a less dramatic, faster fight. She is well versed in this power, and is a formidable opponent if she chooses to battle with it.
However, this also means that she is able to summon animals. At the moment, as she has just discovered this part of her power, she is restricted to small animals no larger than a cat and small birds like sparrows. This power is also somewhat connected to her emotional state; if Adrienne loses control, or if she becomes particularly angry/upset/afraid, she will randomly affect the weather in accordance with this emotion. If near large bodies of water, she can also affect them, but this branch of her power is not very well trained yet.
Psychics ;; Adrienne had to work hard to hone this power, but it is now one of her most valuable abilities. She is able to communicate telepathically if she needs to be silent, and she specialises in casting illusions to confuse and paralyse her victims. She is a capable illusionist, and they affect all five senses at once, meaning that a target can touch, smell, hear, and taste the false world as though it were real, as well as it being visual. At the moment, she is restricted to three people at once, and she is limited to three hours – more than that and she collapses from mental exhaustion. - Horseback Riding ;; Adrienne loves horses and riding, and is an excellent equestrienne. She can also fight from the back of a horse, and is more than capable of managing all gaits, no matter how fast or bumpy.
- Intelligent ;; She is intelligent and a quick learner. Adrienne openly strives to learn something new everyday, or to advance herself and her abilities further. This intelligence also makes her a capable tactician if necessary, though she is often bored by strategy and tactics.
- Determined ;; She never gives up. Never. Adrienne hits obstacles and then will relentlessly seek a way through them or around them. She is firm in her beliefs too, and this makes her almost unbreakable.
- Confident ;; Adrienne’s confidence is hard to overstate. She knows what she can do, and what she will some day be able to do, and she is extremely difficult to shake or shock because of this. She has confidence in her abilities, and trusts herself completely to do the right thing. Because she knows herself so well, this also makes her a decent leader if she were needed in a team.
Weaknesses:
- Arrogance ;; Adrienne’s confidence translates into her pride. She wants to be the best, and is sure she will get there someday, if she isn’t there already. She overestimates her abilities, and will never say no to a challenge, sure that she will come out on top (even if she won’t.)
- Emotionally Distant ;; Unless someone really knows her, Adrienne finds it hard to be intimate emotionally with anybody. She seals her feelings and thoughts away, giving off the face of someone who just doesn’t really care. She comes off as cold and unfeeling, her mind on her duty rather than on her personal relations with others.
- Healing/Supportive Magic ;; Unfortunately, Adrienne doesn’t have a single bone in her body that has an ounce of talent for healing or supportive magic. It’s just something she cannot do – she relies on brute force and mental trickery, but if she ever needed to heal herself or someone else, she would be at a loss.
- Aella ;; Adrienne does everything she can to impress and mimic her mother, and one of her greatest fears is failing or disappointing her. She cannot stand the idea of letting her down in any way, and it is this that drives her. Adrienne is completely loyal to Aella, and threatening that loyalty or relationship in any way is one manner in which people can get to her.
- Quick to Anger ;; Adrienne is very impatient, and it is quite easy to get her riled up to the point where she is ready to fight someone. Carefully pressing her buttons is enough – she has a few triggers that will set her off immediately, such as hurting her sisters or mother, and this will instantly have her sparking up, prepared to get physical.
Personality:
A girl who is desperate to distinguish herself – as one of five, Adrienne has always felt as though she is a part of a set, and though she loves her sisters with all her heart, she hates the idea that she will always just be one of the ‘Maelstrom Quintuplets’. She is ruthlessly driven, seeking always to prove herself to everyone around her. She has almost boundless energy when it comes to things she enjoys – however, she has been known to push herself too hard, and collapse as a result.
Adrienne, or ‘Adi’ as those who care about her know her, comes off as very stand offish and cold when first met. She is unwilling and sometimes incapable of making emotional connections to people who she does not know or trust – and she finds it exceedingly difficult to trust anybody outside her family circle. It is unknown exactly why she is like this, and even Adrienne herself wouldn’t be able to pin it down if asked. To those she does trust, however, Adrienne is very protective and unfailingly loyal. This is especially true when it comes to her mother, who she idolises; everything that Aella is, Adrienne wants to be or to emulate.
It is not hard to get to Adrienne. She will never back down from a challenge or a dare, which means she ends up doing some very stupid things. Not that she herself is stupid – it all comes back to proving herself, showing what she can do. Though she likes spending time with those whose company she enjoys, she is also essentially a loner, and she rarely seeks out company if she is training or working. She despises being thought of as dependent on anything or anyone, and will only seek help for something if she really has no other choice.
With those she can let her guard down around, Adrienne becomes a typical young woman – fun, warm and with a devilishly sarcastic sense of humour. She is just as susceptible to the allures of the opposite sex as anyone else, and men interest her. Having grown up in a predominantly female environment, she finds herself intrigued by men who are challenging and enigmatic. She is also a little scared of them, though she would never admit it to anybody, let alone herself.
Adrienne loves animals and nature, and has an innate connection to them thanks to her magical specialisation. Animals tend to trust her quickly. She particularly likes predators, which are more aloof and powerful than herbivores. Horses are the exception; Adrienne admires and adores the power of a horse, and though she could use magic to get around, she usually opts to travel by horseback, just for the thrill of the ride.
To an enemy, she is relentless and ruthless. Having trained for pretty much her entire two years of life and having had the magical potential within her shaped from her conception, Adrienne is a formidable and dangerous opponent who is not to be underestimated. She is highly disciplined and adaptable in a fight, never using too much energy or too little.
She has her flaws; she is overconfident, which makes her easy to trip up, and it is very easy to goad her into losing control of herself. Losing control over herself means that she will usually lose it over her powers as well, which means that just about anything can happen.
Eyes: Dark green
Hair: Naturally auburn but changed to brown.
Physique:
Slim but curvy, Adrienne has the body of a young woman just growing into her good looks. She is naturally attractive, although she is completely oblivious to this and the affect she has on people. She stands at roughly five feet and six inches, and weighs about one hundred and twenty-four pounds. Her skin is fair. Her hair, once auburn, has been magically dyed to brown for the past year. Her eyes are dark forest green.
She has two distinguishing features; one is the scar behind her right ear, on the edge of her hairline. It is almost unnoticeable unless one knows it is there – it is only about a quarter inch thick and an inch in length. Her second scar is thicker and longer, and is on the inside of her left hip – it is three inches long and a half-inch wide.
Adrienne prefers to wear clothing that makes her look good. Though she doesn’t mind dresses and skirts, she usually wears boot-cut or fitted jeans with a button up or fitted t-shirt. She loves her leather jacket to death, and will hardly ever be seen without it. She wears either boots or high top running shoes for her feet, as she likes to be able to move freely. On her right wrist, she will also usually wear a unique silver charm bracelet.

History:
Adrienne Maelstrom was born as one of the quintuplets created by Aella the Sorceress in the third kingdom. From the moment of her coming into the world, Adrienne was a gifted witch in her own right. Though just a few seconds old, she had the appearance of a sixteen year old, and the common sense to match. As she had been nurtured, Aella had poured all the knowledge she would need into her head. Therefore, though Adrienne was far younger than she appeared, she acted and looked like an average teenager.
Spirited and talented, Adrienne pursued magical knowledge with ruthlessness that others might consider unnecessary. She wanted to be the best, to set herself apart from her sisters and to do her mother proud. Though she loved her family, she constantly vied to distinguish herself. It was quickly discovered that Adrienne had little skill when it came to healing and supportive magic. Upon learning of this flaw, she pushed herself harder to be better in the skills that she did have; she was soon found to have a natural aptitude for offensive natural magic (specifically fire, ice, and lightning), and a talent for manipulating others’ perceptions with illusions and psychic interference.
Alongside her magical training, Adrienne focused on combat with pole weapons such as staves and spears, and horseback riding. She was a quick learner, driving herself to exhaustion in her obsession in overcoming her flaws. Despite this, she did enjoy downtime with her sisters, and they saw a side to her that others did not. Adrienne with her family was a different person to the one strangers and visitors saw.
Above all, Adrienne loved and admired her mother, whom she staunchly supported in absolutely everything. Though she had a mind of her own, she recognised Aella’s power and control, and she wanted to copy that – to have a slice of the power pie, so to speak. In her efforts, she also came into contact with Maleficent and Morgana, mostly by accident. These were her mother’s allies, and they awed her. More than ever, she wanted to be able to say that she was as strong as they were, as fearsome as they were.
When she was about a year old, Adrienne had two accidents; the first was when she fell off a horse and fractured her pelvis, which she absolutely hated. Though it was quickly healed and she was walking again in just over a week, it caused her pain for the following six months and it has only recently diminished entirely. The second time was in a practise sparring match with one of her sisters, wherein she was caught from behind. A tiny scar behind her ear is all that remains of this incident. Though she could have these scars taken away, she always saw them as reminders for her to do better, to try harder and to succeed.
In the past six months where she has grown more used to the world and understands it better, Adrienne has seen even more of her mother’s power first hand, and has become closer and more loyal to her than ever before. She continues to practise and train, though she is now a considerable sorceress in her own right, and is a force to be reckoned with.

Role-play Example:
Ughhhrr...my head...
Everything ached. Even through the quagmire that was her brain, she could feel each bruised muscle, each strained joint. Something heavy was on her chest.
How much did I drink?
Leila's blue eyes fluttered open, and she stared blankly at the canopy of trees covering the sky. She tried to focus on her senses.
Right. Smell. She could smell the acrid stench of burning varnish and woodsmoke. Taste. Not much - her tongue was stuck to the roof of her mouth. She was half surprised that she hadn't bitten it off or swallowed it on impact. Her hearing was distorted - she had probably banged her head and knocked herself out - but the faint sound of branches cracking and birds singing thrummed through her skull. She could see the sky. Easy enough.
The pirate wasn't even going to think about what she could feel. 'A lot of pain' didn't quite justify it.
The pressure on her chest was probably a slab of something. Slowly, she raised her arms, damning the fact that she never wore full armour, and felt the object's outline curiously. It was probably a part of the hull. It wasn't actually as big as she had previously imagined, and it was only wood.
Gritting her teeth, she cast a decent Cure spell on herself before even thinking about removing it. Basking in the light of the magic for a second, she allowed herself to revel in the sensation of everything being healed into place – the torn muscles stitching back together, the deep gash on her arm sealing until it was just a pink line. The spell hadn’t been strong enough to remove it entirely, but she didn’t mind.
Leila braced her shoulders, her fingers fastening onto the board across her torso, and shoved it off her with a snarl. She took a deep breath before slowly standing up and dusting herself down, her fingertips catching into the small rips in her clothing. It was too bad that the Cure couldn’t repair garments as well as it could skin. Still; her modesty was protected, and she had both of her daggers safe in their sheathes.
She wiped a small stream of blood from her nose, grimacing at the copper taste, as she realised that she had bitten the inside of her cheek. The cut and the nosebleed were both healed – only the red liquid remained.
Turning, she stared at the wreckage of the airship, her eyebrows rising in surprise at the utter destruction. It looked like a beached whale.
It was in that moment that she made her decision. Look for survivors, maybe for bodies. Her ears picked up the distinct sound of people shouting. Or one person. She couldn’t be sure.
“Wonder if th’ knight survived the trip…” she murmured to herself. If they ran into each other, then he would surely kill her.
She made her way towards the wreckage, glancing at the few corpses littering the grass.
Once at the base of the huge tear in the hull, she eyed the inside cautiously for any sign of the black-armoured soldier who would have slaughtered her where she stood.
She inhaled, filling her lungs.
“AHOY!”
Her yell bounced off the cavernous interior of the destroyed vessel. She coughed slightly as the smoke permeated her throat, huffing.
Clambering inside, the pirate queen grumbled about the turn of events to nobody in particular.
“ ‘S all that stupid knight’s fault… if he hadn’ been there, if he hadn’ stopped me gettin’ me booty, I woulda been back at the wheel t’ steer the ship into port. Wi’ me coffers full, o’ course…”
In the crash, she had conveniently forgotten that the fact the ship had crashed was because she couldn’t decipher the myriad of buttons and levers in the control room. The Midnight Sun didn’t even have a wheel.
